Speech Therapy · Johannesburg

We give people the ability to communicate their needs.

For some, that means a child saying "mom" or "dad" for the first time. For others, it means being understood at the dinner table, in the classroom, at work, or anywhere that matters. With words, with signs, with anything that works.

Every child deserves to be heard. Every family deserves to be connected.

Built on one belief — everyone thrives when communication is consistent.

Connected Speech is a Sandton based private speech therapy practice working with children and adults who face communication challenges. We work with those who stutter, with language delays, feeding difficulties, and with complex communication needs.

Communication is more than speech. Some find their voice with words. Others use signs, symbols, devices, or gestures — and every one of those pathways is equally valid. Our job is to find what works for you and build on it, in every environment where you live, learn, and grow.

That means therapy does not stop when the session ends. We bring consistent, goal-driven support into the spaces that matter most — so progress is not left at the door.

Person-centred. Every therapy plan is built around the individual — their needs, their pace, their world.

Inclusive by design. Communication takes many forms. We support all of them.

Family-first. Families are partners in therapy, not bystanders. We make sure you know exactly how to support your loved one between sessions.

Results you can see. Real progress, reported clearly, after every session.

Jodi Zimmerman

Jodi has spent almost a decade working with people who communicate differently — and she has never tired of the moment someone finds a way to be understood.

After four years embedded in a government school for children with autism, Jodi developed a deep understanding of what people are capable of when they are given the right tools, the right environment, and someone who truly believes in them. That experience shaped everything about how Connected Speech works today.

Jodi specialises in Augmentative and Alternative Communication — AAC — working with those whose communication goes beyond speech. Makaton signing, the PROMPT, picture-based communication, and high-tech devices are all part of her toolkit. She builds individualised therapy plans for each person, because no two people communicate in exactly the same way.

Her master's dissertation explored how youth empowerment programs can facilitate participation for young people with disabilities — research that continues to shape her approach to therapy and her belief that every person deserves a seat at the table.

She was selected for the Dean's List during her master's program — a reflection of the same commitment she brings to every person she works with.

Support for the communication challenges that affect everyday life.

We work with children from birth through to school age, and with adults navigating communication challenges at any stage of life. Every person receives a therapy plan built specifically for them.

Language Delays

When language milestones are not being met, early intervention makes the biggest difference. We identify what is holding a child back and build the specific skills they need — so they can communicate their needs, connect with others, and thrive at school.

Stuttering

Stuttering affects both children and adults, and the impact goes far beyond speech. We work with individuals and their families to build fluency, confidence, and the tools to communicate without fear — at any age.

Feeding Difficulties

Mealtimes should not be a source of stress. We work with children who have difficulty with textures, swallowing, or oral motor skills — helping them eat more comfortably and confidently, so that mealtimes become easier for the whole family.

Complex Communication Needs

Some people communicate in ways that go beyond speech — and that is okay. We support children and adults with AAC tools, Makaton, PROMPT, and individualised strategies, so they can express themselves and participate fully in the world around them.
